One day a few years back, I decided I wanted to join the VA Airline from the Azores Islands, where I was born. I went to their page and was shocked, they expect their pilots to actually go read their manuals and then take a written test. Then after you pass the test they would not guarantee that would be accepted right away, if there were no openings on the type of aircraft you wanted to fly, then you would have to wait for an opening. So I decided to look into joining another Portuguese airline, only to discover that the requirements were fairly similar. I wondered if this was the standard for all VAs. After looking at other VAs I discovered that some VAs were actually about having fun and not caught up in trying to emulate a real airlines politics and procedures for flying certain aircraft types or certain routes. That’s when I decided that I would start a VA from the Azores that was about having fun. At Azores Airways we do not require tests nor do we require waiting lists to fly certain types of aircraft. You can fly whatever aircraft you feel like on whatever route you want. As long as you are having fun, that is all that matters.

Our aircraft will soon be available for download at avsim.com as soon as we receive permission from some authors to upload our repaints, we will send them to avsim.

We will soon have a pilot’s roster page. So you can compare hours flown by pilots. It will just be for fun of course, there will be no ranks or promotions, all our pilots start of as captains.

We soon hope to apply to VATSIM so you can fly online, however you will NOT be required to fly online, it is entirely up to you, as long as you are having fun then we are happy.

So if you want to join, click on the link at the bottom and email us.

Sincerely,

Jorge Ormonde
